Keaton said in March 2014 that this was the only sequel he wanted to make
Chronology
After a family tragedy, three generations of the Dietz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her teenage daughter Astrid accidentally opens the portal to the afterlife. Jenna Ortega, Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci share why filming Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice was an experience they’ll never forget. Tim Burton has said that this movie will only be made if Michael Keaton returns to reprise his role.
Later, you bastard
The film makes reference to the “French physicist” Marie Sklodowska-Curie; she’s actually one of the most famous Polish scientists in history, often considered second only to Copernicus.. Beetlejuice: I think Dostoyevsky said… SPOILER: There’s a dedication in the closing credits to Bob Skinner, who died in the film. Featured in Late Night with Seth Meyers: Michael Keaton/Connor O’Malley (2024).
I don’t know why
MacArthur Park Written by Jimmy Webb Performed by Donna Summer Courtesy of Island Def Jam Music Group Licensed by Universal Music Operations Ltd.. For some reason people criticize this movie. It was a competent and clever sequel that lived up to its predecessor in almost every way. It helps to have most of the original cast as well as some welcome new faces.
Well done Tim!
It’s also nice to have Tim Burton back in the director’s seat. He managed to keep the feel of the original and translate it enough to keep the style without feeling like an outdated remake. My only negative about the movie is that it takes quite a while before we get to all the Beetlejuice stuff. Sure, there’s a lot of story to cover between the original and now, but some of it could have been cut into shorter segments.
4 Bobs out of 5
Overall it’s true to the original sequel with all the weird and wacky things the original has. Even if it takes a while to get started, once you do, you’ll be hooked. If you weren’t a fan of the original, this one won’t change your mind. However, if you’re a fan and crave more story, you can’t go wrong with this albeit unnecessary but welcome sequel.
