This will be the third attempt at a television series based on the world of Cruel Intentions (1999)
Chronology
After a bullying incident at their elite university, step-siblings Caroline and Lucien attempt to maintain their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. The direct-to-video sequel Cruel Intentions 2 (2000), with Amy Adams replacing Sarah Michelle Gellar as Catherine Merteuil, was originally a scripted television series before being adapted into a feature film.
Cruel Intentions (1999) followed
Gellar would later reprise her role as Catherine in 2016 for the NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series. As someone who loved the original film, I had a hard time watching it at first, as I kept comparing the characters to those in the film.
The characters have different names etc
After a few episodes I would have given up on the comparison as in my opinion this is not a remake but a completely new series with “similarities”. The character I really struggled with in the beginning was Lucian.
However in the last episode he became my favorite
Even after accepting that it was not a remake I couldn’t sympathize with his character at all. My advice is don’t compare; if you do you will be very disappointed.
