A modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of West Texas oil rigs
Check out writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and series on IMDb, sorted by user rating. A landowner, at least one who works in the oil industry, will serve as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. It is usually the landowner’s job to negotiate and finalize deals with landowners who hold mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Basically, they manage the land and secure leases so that they can drill for oil and gas.

Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, build housing for workers (human camp), supervise the assembly of digging equipment, and supervise the drilling of the rig itself, especially in remote areas. They are also parts repairers, problem solvers, and facilitators. This is classic television, but written by a writer who will be remembered decades from now as Norman Lear is today. The difference here seems to be geography.
Inconsistent mother-daughter-father-family dynamics?
This is another niche Western show and its marketing is brilliant combined with excellent performances from top-quality actors. Oil industry accuracy issues? Obviously. Yes.
Larter is at his best and looks phenomenal
Does this mean none of this happens the same way in real life? No big deal, it’s a dynamic and fun production to watch. Thornton is slated for the role, although I’ve read that it was originally written for him. Lots of interesting stuff, except for the odd Demi Moore listed in all 10 episodes.
If not, I wonder what the problem is
I’ve seen all 5 that have aired so far, and unless it’s just me, I only remember seeing and hearing her once, in her pool, for a brief moment. Hamm’s character isn’t seen as much either, but he’s well-acted and he nails his character, but Moore hasn’t been allowed to add anything so far. Maybe it’s written that way and she’ll play a role in later episodes.
