CIA agent Joe struggles to balance his personal and professional lives as the spearhead of the agency’s war on terror. Real-life military advisors helped create more authentic weapon handling, house clearance, positioning, team-based action, etc. Mr. Sheridan knows how to introduce us to testosterone-fueled, macho worlds without clichés and seemingly without agendas. It is what it is.
No apologies needed
His characters are always grounded, and he is extremely skilled at casting. But to be great, you have to write good roles for women. The writing has to be as good, if not better, than it is for men. Guys are simple. Women are smarter, more sophisticated.
They are strong and captivating
Beth from Yellowstone (great character and performance), the barrel racers, the lone female assistant on the ranch (a fantastic Jen Landon Titre) – all great female characters who fit into the story’s world naturally and effortlessly. Not just “partner…” or T & A. He stepped up his game with the great character Faith Hill, who was crushed in "1883" at the moment of the ignition being turned off, followed by Dame Mirren, who was "1923". Now Zoe Saldana is doing some of the best things of her career. I totally believe in her as the CIA head in an open marriage (nice touch).
Truth above all!
I buy De Oliveira as a broken woman with a burning anger that won’t give up and thank you, thank you, thank you to the writers/directors/producers for NOT letting her get the best of a male companion with another… hundred pounds of muscle. I think her character is much more interesting if she’s someone who needs to be knocked out cold or simply laid low before giving up. Now let’s talk about Jill Wagner, or should I say her hair? What about her face!

From schmaltzy Hallmark dreck to particularly bad specials? Special mention: Mrs. Lanier as the obnoxious teenage daughter. I’m looking forward to this loose canon arc, as long as they continue to avoid the clichés of teenage angst. Good cast, could be interesting…
